Formerly known as ‘Apollo Cinema Burnley’ – the history of the Reel Cinemas Burnley started on May 30th, 1997 when it welcomed the locals with the new theatrical hub as ‘Apollo Cinema Burnley’. A site which was previously occupied by a DIY store now became the first opened cinema in Burnley. Burnley Cinema (Apollo Cinema) has a seating capacity of 1,632 distributed in the stalls and hall.

The Apollo Cinema stayed as foremost Burnley Cinema until 2013 when Reel Cinemas acquired the ownership rights of the cinema in 2013. Now the cinema was known as Reel Cinemas – Burnley. No major changes occurred in the building except refurbishment of the seating and few other amenities in 2017. As a matter of fact, the seating capacity was reduced from 1,632 to 1,090 probably to expand the halls or it could be something else as no one really knows the reason. Reel Cinemas Burnley amenities include a licensed bar with fast food.
